Rotary Foundation Scholarship Scheme 2012

The Rotary Club of Aberystwyth will run its scholarship scheme again in 2012.  The scheme offers financial support for a number of young people from the Aberystwyth area wishing to travel abroad for humanitarian and experience-widening purposes.

Anyone up to and including the age of 21 with a permanent address in Aberystwyth (or its immediate catchment area) may apply. Applications are invited from school, college and university students, although it must be emphasised that an Aberystwyth student address does not meet the qualifying criteria.

There must be a clear-cut purpose for the overseas visit which could include:

  • working on a short-term humanitarian project in health, housing and educational fields
  •  participation in officially-sponsored work programmes
  • representing the local area in worldwide events
  • other projects as appropriate

Anyone interested is invited to submit a written application which should include a Curriculum Vitae and full details of the purpose of the visit and how the candidate personally expects to benefit from the experience.  If the proposed visit is organised by a humanitarian or charitable organisation, any supporting literature provided by the organisation and the project should be included with the application.

Completed applications should be sent to Rotarian Robin Varley, 14 Lon Llewelyn, Waun Fawr, Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, SY23 3TP (tel 01970 624403) by 31st January 2012.

In 2011 the following grants were awarded:

  • volunteering services in a hospital as part of ”Welsh Youth to Lourdes”
  • working with ‘ProjectsAbroad’
  • working with disadvantaged children in Jaipur, India under the auspices of the ‘i-to-i’ organisation
  • working as a volunteer in a hospital in Cambodia –under the auspices of the Rose Charities
